Jeff Montaigne asks,
"What's Your Song?"
Long
Island artist Jeff Montaigne likes to think of himself
as a singer who uses his brush as his microphone.
Montaigne’s unique lyrical art appeals both visually and
emotionally to all who lay eyes on it. Montaigne
magically transforms the words used in well-known song
lyrics into colorful pop art. The artist has always had
two passions, well maybe three if you count baseball,
Art and Music. These two passions became forever merged
in the work of Montaigne.
“While driving in my car
and listening to the radio, it dawned on me that ‘songs’
were very much one dimensional in the sense of how we
receive them whether on record, radio or in concert,”
said Montaigne. “I started to imagine what the lyrics
would look like if I froze them; much like the way
lyrics were printed inside albums, however with more
impact, feelings and vibrancy.”
When you stop and freeze
the lyrics, and then turn them into a work of art, they
have a way of connecting to the viewer like no other
work can. There are so many emotions that words of songs
can bring about. What drives the artists is creating
work that resonates with his viewers, whether it be the
love song of a couple’s marriage, a favorite song
growing up or one that brings back great memories.
Montaigne will be making his gallery premiere at Allison
Corey Fine Art in Great Neck, Long Island. The exhibit
will run from November 30 until December 10, with an
artist reception on Saturday, December 2 from 6-9pm.
“Like songs on a radio, the lyrics I paint are my
dashboard confessional, my palette,” said Montaigne.
“Everyone has one song that truly resonates within them,
that speaks to them on many different levels. So…What’s
your song?” |
